About
Azarel serves as the Director of the Minority Business Office at the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. In this role, she is dedicated to enhancing economic opportunities for minority, women, and veteran entrepreneurs across the state. Previously, Azarel was a Regional Director for Senator John Hickenlooper, where she championed the interests of South Central Colorado, ensuring that rural communities had a strong voice in policy discussions.
Previously, Azarel led as Executive Director of the First Southwest Community Fund, where she managed a dynamic impact loan fund focused on supporting entrepreneurs and improving access to capital for underserved communities. Her leadership has been pivotal in driving meaningful change and breaking down barriers to financial resources. Azarel’s contributions to the community have been widely recognized. She is a distinguished member of the 2023-24 Colorado Governor’s Fellows program, which connects private and nonprofit sector leaders with a deeper understanding of state government and public policy. She also completed the prestigious Boettcher Foundation’s Doers & Difference Makers Fellowship, a nine-month program designed to honor and connect exceptional community leaders across Colorado.
In 2022, Azarel was honored as an “Exceptional New Alumna” by her alma mater, reflecting her commitment to both personal and professional growth. She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Adams State University, where she was actively involved in student government and served on the Board of Trustees.
Beyond her professional achievements, Azarel remains deeply engaged in her community. She has supported grassroots issue focused campaigns and served on various advisory committees and boards. Passionate about travel and live music, Azarel enjoys the transformative power of music and cherishes her time with her dogs.
